INFLUENCE OF JEWISH LAW (BIBLE) IN SOME AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

Dr. Allan Richter, Doctor of Laws (JD)

INFLUENCE OF JEWISH LAW IN SOME AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

“The word “halakhah” is usually translated as “Jewish Law”, although a more literal (and more appropriate) translation might be “the  path that one walks.”  The word is derived from Hebrew root Hei-Lamed-Kaf, meaning to go, to walk or to travel.”

The word “Torah” is a tricky one, because it can mean different things in different contexts.  In its most limited sense, “Torah” refers to the Five Books of Moses…But the word “Torah” can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible (the body of scripture known to non-Jews as the Old Testament and to Jews as the “Tanach” or written Torah), or in its broadest sense, to the body of Jewish law and teachings.

In Jewish mysticism the world, is founded upon the primordial Holy Torah which is composed of black fire written on white fire.  This primordial Torah shines within and before the Holy One at the beginning of creation.  It is infinite and eternal, without beginning or end. This primordial Torah is identified with the Word.  It is the source of the earthly Torah and Halakhah.  It has never been fully revealed. Christian and Jewish understanding of the nature of the Word are similar but differ.

Roberto Aron in INFLUENCE OF JEWISH LAW IN SOME AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS traces the influence of Torah and Halakah in the United States, particularly our constitution.

Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement.

Dr. Allan Richter, Doctor of Laws (JD)

Saudi Arabia produces and distributes textbooks that disparage Christians, label Jews “pigs” and teach that execution is the Islamic response to gay sex. The State Department made a report in 2012 but refuses to make it public saying that every country reforms at its own pace.

Rhetorical question: Why is there no Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement against Saudi Arabia and countless countries that actually abuse human rights while many in Europe and the United States invent slanderous lies about the Jewish State and organize boycotts and demand sanctions designed to destroy it? On many American campuses characterizing Jews as demons is protected as Academic Freedom while politically incorrect speech is banned.

Nazi boycotting of Jews in academia and business initiated the "final solution".

Piano Bar: Smooth Jazz Club at Midnight Buddha Café

This is the style I played in the day. It is entirely improvised. I would play for hours at a time. Dad would be 89 today. I took lessons from Dad's teacher, Phil Weiss. I would take the 23 to the Broad St. subway down town. His studio was up a few flights of steps some where on Locust St I think. He had three rooms but only one piano was tuned. As a young adult I went back to visit but he had just passed away. There were three young men there who had rented the studio. The same piano's were there. They had them tuned. I said I came to see Phi Weiss but of course he was gone. I was asked to play. They wanted me to take lessons. When I sat down the music just came from my hands. They always knew what to do. I didn't have to think. I was told there was nothing they could teach me. No lesson from them.  I sat down today for the first time in many years.  Life has its distractions.  My fingers rebelled.  I've decided to practice again until.  It is like growing young.  It takes me back in time to the day.

Johnny Cash - She Used To Love Me A Lot (Official Music Video)

It has been three years since Dad died.  Dad played both piano and guitar well. He also sang.  His taste in music was eclectic.  When he sang however, it was Country Song and his guitar.  This is in his memory.

Religious Liberty by Dr. Allan Richter, Doctor of Laws (JD)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/social/Allan_Richter/with-liberty-and-birth-control_b_4979376_309141416.html

Rev. Debra Haffner said “I hope you will join us in praying for the Supreme Court Justices to assure religious liberty for all -- and that you will also hold the millions of women who want and need birth control in their health insurance coverage in your hearts.”

Birth control is widely available. Any colleges that have been making birth control available free on campuses are not being prohibited from continuing so. The author is not, as she suggest fighting that battle again as she suggests. There is no birth control availability crisis. The author is creating an imagined crisis to serve her own political objectives.

The real issue is whether there is a compelling need to force employers to violate their religious conscious strong enough to overrides a constitutionally protected right. Free birth control is not a constitutionally protected right. Freedom of religion is.

Protecting religious freedom from state interference is a compelling interest of free societies. It should be a compelling interest for all people who value freedom. The argument that some are being denied a right to birth control is a red hearing serving political ends. Nobody is being denied a right to use birth control nor is it being suggested that anyone be denied access to birth control.

Christian Persecution in the Middle East

Dr. Allan Richter, Doctor of Laws (JD)

According to a new Pew report Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world.  The persecution occurs primarily throughout the Islamic world.  Much of the land that Islam seized was originally Christian - including the Middle East and North Africa.  There are vestiges of Christian minorities in all these Islamic lands.  Christianity is seen as a threat because it openly professes faith and proselytizes.  It thus runs up against Islam’s blasphemy and proselytism laws and is viewed as a threat.

The initiative to be considered a different nationality than Arab is a Christian initiative.  They want to be known as Arabic speaking Christians.  Christians see Israel as a haven and are increasingly pledging loyalty to the State of Israel and enlisting in the IDF.  Most want no part of being a minority in a Palestinian state.
